Three men in a car ran down a bicyclist and stole his messenger bag near the Glen Park BART Station Tuesday evening, only to have the victim toss his bike back at the retreating robbers, police said.

The robbery happened at about 7:15 p.m. as a 44-year-old man rode southbound on Arlington Street, according to police spokesman Sgt. Wilfred Williams. Three suspects, in a dark black or blue hatchback, ran him down as he approached Bosworth Street and knocked him to the ground.

The three men jumped out of the car and took his messenger bag, along with its contents, which fell out on the street, Williams said.

As the suspects’ car passed, the victim tossed his bike and hit the side of the vehicle. One of the suspects then got out of the car and got into a fight with the bicyclist, Williams said. The suspect finally ran away once the bicyclist flagged down a passing motorist.

Police are searching for all three men, who were described as black and between the ages of 20 and 25 years old. Two were wearing black hooded sweatshirts while the third was wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt.
