Kristin Ashley Thiel was charged with a felony count of leaving the scene of an injury accident after Meridian police say she drove into a 13-year-old boy on a bike and then took off Wednesday afternoon.

Police say Thiel, 22, was driving a Honda Accord south on Linder Road, just north of Franklin Road, around 5:30 p.m., when witnesses say her car veered right and struck the bike, throwing the boy to the ground.

Witnesses said she stopped to see what happened but quickly got back in and drove away. Bystanders stayed with the boy until paramedics arrived, Sgt. Matt Parsons said.

He was taken to the hospital and treated for what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries, Parsons said.

Officers found a piece of the car near the accident site and patrolled the area, finding the car at a residence less than a mile away.

The charge is punishable by up to five years in prison. A preliminary hearing on the charge is scheduled for later this month.
