The Times of India: Bus knocks down cyclist, mob disrupts traffic

RANCHI: An irate mob on Monday blocked NH-23 for several hours in protest against the mowing down of a cyclist by a speeding bus at the railway level-crossing under the Balidih police station

The victim, Raghu Kapardar, was a resident of Chainpur village. He was rushed to Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) where doctors declared him brought dead.

Following the incident, the kin of the deceased along with local residents squatted on NH-23 and disrupted movement of traffic for several hours. They were demanding compensation forb the next of kin of the victim from the district administration. The blockade was lifted after Chas BDO Manish Kumar and police officials arrived at the spot spot and assured compensation to the victim’s family.
The officials also handed over few thousand rupees for the funeral.

Police said Kapardar was a daily wage labourer. He was was on his way home after work when, a bus hit him and sped away.

An FIR has been lodged in this connection.

His wife, Pano Devi, said Kapardar had fixed their daughter’s marriage next week because of which he was working overtime.

Officials assured the family that the daughter’s marriage would be arragned under the Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yogana.
