WATERTOWN —
A Watertown man was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after he struck a cyclist with his pickup truck near Watertown Square.

Police and the Fire Department were called to the intersection of Main and Galen Streets at 3:39 p.m. on Oct. 27 on report of a road rage incident involving a man on a bicycle. Robert MacKerron Jr., 43, of 4 Cypress St., allegedly hit a 26-year-old man on a bike as the cyclist was traveling with the flow of traffic from Arsenal Street onto Galen Street.

The cyclist, who had a hurt right shoulder, had brushed against MacKerron’s passenger side mirror on Arsenal Street at the green light. MacKerron then struck the cyclist on the left side, causing him to fly over his handlebars, according to witnesses.

The cyclist believed he had a dislocated shoulder and was transported via ambulance to Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge.
