WGME Portland, ME: Bicyclist claims TV personality tried to run his bicycle off the road

PORTLAND (WGME) — A man says a television personality known as “Captain Jim” tried to run him off the road, and also made derogatory comments at him.

The run-in happened on the Martin’s Point Bridge in Portland, which is currently under construction. Because of that, bicyclists are allowed to ride on the road.

James Riley says he was riding south on the bridge when James Harkins came behind him in his vehicle. Harkins is the host of a deep-sea fishing program, known as “Captain Jim”.

Riley claims Harkins threatened to run him off the road, and made anti-gay comments at him. Riley recorded some of Harkins’ comments on his phone.

Harkins says Riley confronted him in a parking lot, starting the fight between the two. He claims the whole situation has been sensationalized.

Harkins has an attorney, and says he might take the case to court.
